What feeds your soul?

The following is a note I wrote (mostly to myself) in early February 2020…

This past week, I have been to the ER, spent four days bed ridden, and have barely been able to walk. The flu sucks. PERIOD. Yet, there is sometimes a hidden upside to the sickness: I had to take a break.

Ever since I got back to school from winter break, I have been going balls to the wall. Nonstop. Zero thoughts. Just action.

For three weeks straight, I was interviewing for an internship, for clubs, starting new classes, and extending myself in more ways than I feel like I have done in the last 4 years of my life. The problem was (and usually is): it was too much.

It’s funny how the body works. It knows much more than we think. When it needs a break, it forces one on you. And for good reason. We can’t always go at 1000 miles an hour. IT’S NOT SUSTAINABLE.

This week, in between coughs, body aches, and restless nights, I was able to think. Let my thoughts run free. Was I happy now? Was it all worth it? New doors have been open, but did I really want it? Now was the time to plow full speed ahead, but instead I couldn’t help but think it was all a waste of time.

The core of my qualms came down to a single question: what feeds your soul?

Not your resume, not your clout, not even your time.

Does it feed your soul?

If I am being totally honest, I am still trying to figure this one out. There is no “one size fits all here.” It’s highly individual but critically important. For if we don’t stop to think, we risk losing ourself in the process.

So, I ask you one last time:

What feeds your soul?
